Kamala Harris, Cesar Chavez, and Our Powerful Community: Moving Forward with Inspector Mama™️
Hey, hey, familia! Welcome back to “Inspector Mama™️.” This is Carla - Inspector Mama™️ by day, political firestarter by night. Today, we’re talking about some big changes here on the podcast, what the future holds, and what it means to be part of this beautiful, resilient community of ours.
So, let’s get real for a minute. I know I’m not alone when I say that I’m disappointed about Kamala Harris losing this election. It’s tough to see someone who broke so many barriers and represented so many of us on that national stage come up short this time. Uf, it stings. But at the same time, here in North Carolina, we made some incredible gains. We elected people who are here to represent and serve us, people with strong visions and grounded values who I truly believe will work for the good of our state. And I think that’s worth celebrating. En serio, we have a lot to be proud of.
Hispanic and Latinx voters showed up. Our voices were heard, loud and clear. And now, more than ever, it’s time for leaders to actually listen to us. Because we’re here. We’ve always been here. We are descended from the Natives that lived here long before Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. And, como dijo Cesar Chavez, “the day will come when we win the economic and political rewards which are in keeping with our numbers in society.” Chavez spoke to that truth, to our resilience, and to the power of our unity. Let me share this quote that I think says it best:
The day will come when the politicians will do the right thing for our people out of political necessity and not out of charity or idealism. That day may not come this year. That day may not come during this decade, but it will come someday. And when that day comes, we shall see the fulfillment of that passage from the Book of Matthew in the New Testament: "The last shall be first, and the first shall be last." And on that day, our nation shall fulfill its creed, and that fulfillment shall enrich us all.
Cesar knew that change is slow, but he also knew it’s inevitable. And every step we take as a community brings us closer to that vision.
Now, speaking of long journeys… if you’ve been following along, you know I ran for office in 2022. I won the primary and barely lost the general. And with the way that district lines were drawn, let’s just say it’s no surprise I ended up on the “do not empower” list. They could have drawn me out of my district— but they are actual fools! It’s a little funny how petty they are because I can walk to the district line. Happy to live in their head rent free - because there will come a day when I will do it again. If they happen to be stalking my whole entire life, y’all better get smart right now because the sun will rise. Shoo - buddy, that journey showed me how strong we can be, and I came back to this community more fired up than ever.
Through all that, Inspector Mama™️ has been here. This community has been a constant source of love and support, and for that, I am grateful. Even when my attention had to be elsewhere, I knew I had this foundation, this home, that would be here when I returned. And I’m happy to say that I’m back with all my heart—and a little extra help! I recently onboarded someone to help me edit the podcast, so we’re all set to keep giving you my best, episode after episode.
So why am I choosing to go all-in on Inspector Mama™️? Because I love it. This blog, this podcast, this space we’ve created—it’s my heart and soul. I started with baby-proofing consultations, doing in-home and virtual visits to help new parents get ready for life with little ones. Then, it grew into a blog and podcast that I could build with all of you. Now, with this exclusive focus, I’m excited to bring you even more of what we love. From quick five-minute makeup routines to easy outfit hacks that help you get out the door feeling fabulous, I’m here to make the day-to-day feel doable and a little more joyful.
But beyond that, Inspector Mama™️ is about connecting on what matters most. This is where we can celebrate who we are as parents, as working-class families, as Latinx and Hispanic folks raising the next generation with pride and purpose. Because at the end of the day, somos gente trabajadora, just trying to give our kids the best life we can.
This is more than just a blog or a podcast; it’s a movement, a place where we lift each other up and push for change. I hope that here, you feel seen, valued, and supported, whether we’re talking about kids’ bedtime routines, advocating for our community, or celebrating our wins together. We may be working-class families, but we are powerful when we come together, and we deserve a voice in shaping the future.
Let me leave you with this: The sun will rise. That’s my family’s motto, and I hold it close. It’s a reminder that no matter how long the night, the sun always comes up. We’ve got this, because we have each other, we have our dreams, and we have a voice that’s growing stronger every day.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we’re building something beautiful. Hasta luego, familia.
